Philanthropy

AOII’s international philanthropy, the Arthritis Foundation, was adopted in 1967.  Arthritis is the leading cause of disability among women.

AOII Alpha hosts an array of different philanthropic events throughout the year. Besides our two signature events, AOKaraoke in the Fall and War of the Roses in the Spring, our chapter participates in many more service and volunteer opportunities here at Columbia and beyond.  Sisters of Alpha Omicron Pi understand the importance of giving back and spend countless hours each year donating their time to help our local communities.

Additionally, the Alpha Omicron Pi Foundation was established in 1977 in order to support the philanthropies and members of the organization through scholarships, financial aid and more.

AOKaraoke

All Columbia groups and organizations are invited to participate in this bracket-style singing show-off. Whether you are a shower or professional singer, all voices are welcome to be part of this pitch perfect night!  All proceeds from AOKaraoke go towards The Arthritis Foundation, the official philanthropy of Alpha Omicron Pi.  This past year, we raised over $2000!

War of the Roses

War of the Roses is a Columbia-wide trivia competition in which all Columbia organizations are invited to compete to test their knowledge on all things Arthritis, Alpha Omicron Pi, Columbia, and many other fun topics!  All proceeds go to The Arthritis Foundation, our international philanthropy.  This past year, we donated the money we raised to our dear friend, Hannah, for her participation in the Walk to Cure Arthritis.  We raised over $700!

Community Service

AOII Alpha’s philanthropic efforts do not stop once we leave campus. As impassioned advocates of service, our commitment to bettering our world truly has no boundaries. Our altruistic sisters are frequently found volunteering in Morningside Heights, in New York City, in another state, or even half way across the world in a completely different country!
